Rockingham 10/21/06
The last NASA event of the year was again held in Rockingham track. I had a suberb group crewing for me since they didn't want to bring their cars, but wanted to attend in year end award ceremonies...
Saturday morning practise was a bit of a short one for me. I had changed rotors in front and it seemed to take forever to push those calibers back with brake pedal. I pumped several minutes until I got enough pedal feel to go out and bed them in for qualifying. I probably need to change brake master cylinder and rebuild calibers over the winter.
On qualifying the brakes felt fine and I got the pole in Lightning group.
Race start came and I was left to 3rd behind couple of 944 supercup cars, they plain outaccelerated me.
I had good time for a few laps with both of them, swapping places back and forth until slower one started to fall behind. The faster one figured out soon that he too can go around Nascar corner with full speed and then he needed to cover me from diving inside on slower corners. We fought throughout the race and he ended up taking the win by 0.3 seconds. Very fun race! Thanks Karl!
The combined race was pretyt fun too, but this time I ran pretty much by myself. There was monster AIX class Mustang who put his nose beside me on straights. It was impressive sight how quickly that yellow spec grew in mirror! My frien Karl was left behind fighting with a bunch of cars and there was Halls Camaro who kept pretty good pace behind and kept me on my toes.
Thanks for everyone for a good year and especially NASA SE people for creating such a great organisation for racing.
